MA Judiciary Hearing on Numerous Foreclosure Related Bills
On September 26 2017 the Massachusetts Legislature Joint Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing on numerous bills. Some of the bills, which have been kicking around for some time, would bring big changes to foreclosures in Massachusetts, such as S. 763, requiring judicial foreclosure, S.831, giving foreclosed owners a right to remain in the property, and H.2336, reducing the limitations period for deficiency judgments from three years to three months. Given that there were over 50 bills reviewed, and each was allotted only 3 minutes of review, it will be interesting to see if the hearing constitutes an advance or death knell for the bills.
